Areas of Dallas
Unlike any other city in Texas, Dallas is a break from the norm. Sure there are plenty of Tex-Mex, Mexican and American cowboy influences, and its economy is tied to oil industries, but this city has more of a cosmopolitan flair than other major cities like Houston and San Antonio. There is no question Dallasites are proud to be from Texas, but they make sure that isn't only thing travelers take away with them. Dallas is a metropolis with plenty of green spaces, towering skyscrapers, great restaurants, myriad hotel options and plenty of cultural events.

Downtown Dallas is the core of the city where many international companies are headquartered and is areas central business district. It is also home to the West End Historic District and the Arts Districts. To the east, the area of Deep Ellum is Dallas rough-around-the-edges neighborhood that is home to a multitude of live venues and nightclubs. The once industrial warehouse zone is now one of the city's most desirable places to live.

North of the Downtown loop is Oak Lawn, home to the American Airlines Centre and Victory Park, a planned residential and retail area. The area is best known for its gay and lesbian nightlife scene. The Dallas Design District can also be found here, giving the area an artsy feel.

Uptown is considered one of the most pedestrian friendly areas in Dallas, so take advantage of that and explore the area on foot. It is also one of the wealthiest areas, so there are plenty of chic boutiques and fine dining options here.
