While you are in Dallas it's a good idea to see the old fashioned rodeo in Mesquite. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo takes place from April through September. The event is hosted by Resistol Arena located east of Dallas.

The venue gets crowded with over 200,000 fans that come from near and far to watch exciting championship rodeo events such as bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, chuck wagon racing, mustang riding, and barrel racing. Each Friday and Saturday a Grand Parade marks the start of events and activities.

If you are traveling with kids around this time of the year, put Mesquite Championship Rodeo on your itinerary. Kids are sure to like the petting zoo and the pony rides. A Western style store is there to be browsed and you can also have old fashioned western cuisine.

Near the event, at Mesquite Barbecue (972-285-6573) you can have a meal for less than $7. This place is family friendly and casual. If you are hungry for seafood visit the upscale and trendy Pappas Bros. Steakhouse (214-366-2000).
